What the calculator processes
The calculator processes the figures you enter—such as salary, tax code, pension, workplace benefits and student-loan choices—in your browser. Those entries are not submitted to our server, saved to an account or attached to your identity.
A managed workplace browser or security service may run the browser in a remote environment or inspect browsing independently. This site does not control those services or promise that browser execution always occurs on your physical device.
You do not need an account. We do not ask for your name, email address, National Insurance number or employer.
Information a web host may receive
Our hosting provider is Fasthosts. Like most websites, the host may process technical request data needed to deliver and secure the site. This can include an IP address, browser type, requested page, timestamp and security signals. Server logs should be retained only for operational and security purposes, for the shortest practical period.
Optional Google Analytics
With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, to understand visits and improve the site. Google receives technical usage data, including the public page viewed, browser/device information and analytics cookie identifiers. Requests to Google also expose network information such as your IP address. Analytics loads only after you choose “Allow analytics”; refusing does not affect the calculator.
Salary, tax code, pension, benefits, student-loan choices and calculated results are not included in our analytics configuration or events. Page reports use the public canonical page address, not URL query strings or fragments, and we do not send a referring-page address. Visits with query strings or unknown fragments are not measured. Predefined public salary examples may appear in page addresses; these are not your private entries.
Google Signals and advertising personalisation are disabled in our tag. There are no advertising loaders. You can withdraw permission using “Cookie settings” in the footer; this stops further Analytics collection and removes this site’s Google Analytics cookies where browser access permits. Withdrawal cannot recall data already sent.
Google may process data outside the UK under its applicable safeguards. See Google’s privacy policy and how Google uses information from partner sites. Cookie names and durations are described in our cookie policy.
Local preferences
Your consent, colour-theme and take-home-privacy choices are stored in your browser using local storage. This prevents notices reappearing and remembers your display preferences. You can remove them at any time through your browser’s site-data controls.
If browser policy blocks storage, calculations still work. Display choices apply in memory only, and optional processing defaults to essential-only when a saved consent choice cannot be read.
Financial inputs and pinned comparisons stay in the current page’s memory only. They are not saved in local or session storage, sent to analytics, or added to new share links. Refreshing or leaving the page resets them. Predefined public SEO examples are separate from private calculator entries.
Older calculation bookmarks remain readable for compatibility. When one is opened, its encoded fragment is restored locally then removed from the current page address. It is not sent to the server. Legacy financial drafts are deleted when the main calculator opens. A previously shared bookmark still contains its original inputs; anyone with it can read them.
Legal basis and your rights
Essential hosting and security processing is based on legitimate interests in operating a safe, reliable service. Optional analytics and advertising rely on consent where required by UK data-protection and electronic-communications law. Depending on the data involved, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing, and to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
